Relax Your JaW
Relaxed jaw, happy life.
Emotional distress and sub-optimal body mechanics can lead to habitual tension patterns in an otherwise healthy jaw.
These tension patterns can show up as facial pain, headaches, jaw tightness, tooth grinding and other uncomfortable symptoms.
While most of us have tricks for reducing muscle tension elsewhere in the body, self care strategies for relaxing jaw tension are not always intuitive.
Many people feel helpless to relieve their jaw tension, and that helplessness can contribute to an unhelpful cycle of negative thinking and shut down.
Luckily, I have a large bag of integrated mind/body skills to help you improve your body mechanics, train your nervous system to relax and improve your ability to mindfully tolerate stressful emotions.
This six session package includes:
Week 1: We explore how your body does jaw tension through an individual intake session. We will assess the factors that contribute to your tension, evaluate our coping skills and assist you with creating personalized goals to optimize your participation in the upcoming weeks.
Week 2: We will prime your nervous system to access a relaxed state through an individual hypnosis session designed to reduce muscle tension.
Week 3: We will meet as a group to complete a review our depletion to renewal plans and learn a simple breathing technique that will promote effective HRV. We will get to know each other and establish ourselves as a healing community.
Week 4-6: Through mindful movement practices we will learn about movement patterns that can promote a relaxed nervous system and reduce unnecessary muscle tension in the jaw. We will also review simple Myofascial release self care skills that we can add to our daily wellness regime.
Week 6 & 7: We will enhance our heart rate variability breathing practice by pairing it with activities designed to highlight the impact that our thoughts and attitudes have on our muscle tone and jaw tension.
Week 8: We will review the material covered, assess our progress and make plans for continuing our healthy jaw habits into the future.
